Let the kids make their own birthday cake

Children’s parties can take so much to organize. Try this time saving idea and create an original cake.

It’s birthday time. And it is time for you to arrange your child’s birthday party.

There is so much to think about and do.

Firstly you need to find some invitations and write on them. This is after arguing about how many can come and who to invite.

You will need to come up with a menu of food and then either buy it or make it.

There are the decorations. Balloons, streamers, table cloth, banners…...

The party favors for all the guest to take home. Some food for the parents that stay. A party outfit for your child, something for you.

Argh! Does it ever stop.

And then, of course is the cake. Oh my – the CAKE.

What to do? Well by this stage there is no budget left (that blew out at the invitation stage).

Do you make something?

You could.

But of course your child wants a cake that looks like a dalmatian puppy/palomino pony/tyrannosaurus/a transformer – that transforms/harry potter/hogwarts. (What ever happened to Humpty Dumpty?)

Too hard, too tiring and not enough time.

OK. Lets try something novel.

Why not make (or buy) enough cupcakes for each child to have one. Cover with plain frosting.

And then...

Let the Children decorate.

All you need do is to set out an array of candies, sprinkles and chocolates. And let each child decorate their own cupcake.

For smaller children just let them decorate which ever way they like.

But for older children, maybe you could set a theme. You could even go as far as to award prizes. Though, I do suggest enough prizes for each child. They could be awarded for the best use of candy, the most original, for thinking outside the square, most life like etc etc.

This not only solves the cake issue but keeps them occupied for ages.

And to cherish the moment, why not take a photo of each child’s completed cake.

Embellish as much as possible with all the details of your new life. Describe in minute detail the exterior and landscaping of your home, all the rooms and what is in each room. Your daily routine as it will be and the things you plan to do next, (i. e. Trips, Vacations, visiting, learning, etc.) just everything you have ever dreamed of doing. Running your business out of your office or from your office building (if you want to keep your business and personal life separate). Your investments, your rental properties, the properties you are flipping, etc.

The greater the detail the better easier it is for it to become part of you. The more you read it the more your posture and self assurance will improve. As these improve your attitude will improve because you are becoming your Vision, you are the person that has and does all of these things because in your subconscious you are creating the You that You have always Deserved to be. Your self confidence will increase and come to the top and you will feel so much better about yourself and your ability to improve your lifestyle.

Reading your Vision Statement every day is one way to begin this life enhancing experience but one that works even better is to record your Vision Statement as you read it and copy it to a CD or tape so that you can listen to it at least once a day. Studies have shown that there are two voices that have the most profound influence upon someone’s life your mothers voice or your voice.

Day after day of hearing your vision your subconscious will start believing and as it starts believing so do you and that starts and keeps things moving in your life towards your new direction. This replaces the negative self talk you might be doing at the present time. Any time something negative comes up in your mind (self talk) your daily listening to or reading of your Vision Statement should eventually replace this with a positive self talk.

Might sound like gibberish to some, but it has had outstanding results for those that have committed and followed through with Visions, their goals, their action plans, etc. When do you feel it is time to write your vision statement and start hearing your new life every day? No time life the present or else you are going to end up with the same life you have now doing the same things you have been doing.

Along with Seinfeld and Frasier, Friends is undoubtedly the most watched and followed sitcom on the 1990s. A luxurious drive

The 2006 Lincoln LS is only available in one trim only, and that is the V8 Sport. It is crafted under the Lincoln brand as a luxury sports sedan with four doors, and can accommodate a passenger capacity of five people maximum. It is equipped with the standard 3.9 liter V8 engine with 280 horsepower and this can achieve 18 mpg in the city and 25 mpg while driving on the highway. Although it is less composed than its European rivals, the Lincoln LS has a ride quality that is comfortable enough. Its expansion joints are fairly well-masked and hidden. It is also capable and balanced in aggressive cornering. Its steering and handling provides a good grip and steering feel. The brakes also have a moderate body lean and are strong. It is not really hushed up, however it could be quite enough for the only noise one could hear would be the low wind and minor tire roar on coarse pavements.

Thailand smoking ban goes into effect

The new smoking ban in Thailand bars and restaurants is in effect and from what I have observed the law is being treated like any other law in Thailand. What I mean is, some establishments have already set up smoking areas, others say you have to smoke outside the restaurant or bar, and others are ignoring the law altogether.

The reason for ignoring the ban could be that it will not really be enforced for a couple of months. Instead of stiff fines being issued, there will be warnings and education until the end of May, 2008.

But, then, the fines will be steep. If enforced, smokers can be fined 2,000 Baht (approximately $62 US dollars) and venue owners will be fined up to 20,000 Baht (over $600 US dollars).

This will force the bar and restaurant owners to enforce the law on their property. If the ban just penalized smokers, the establishment owners would completely ignore it.

This is nothing really new. Thailand has banned smoking in hospitals, government buildings, and train stations for a few years now. This is just an extension of an already existing law.

We have a similar law in Hawaii. It is a little more stringent in that we cannot smoke within 50 feet of the door of the establishment. The law also provides fines for smokers and bar and restaurant owners.

As a smoker, I was a bit peeved initially at the law, but as time has gone by, it is really no big deal. If I have to step outside to smoke it is no big deal.

I am currently visiting Khon Kaen, Thailand and go out almost nightly. I haven’t been to any bars but I have visited quite a few restaurants. One of my favorites, La Mai, has set up a smoking area near the restrooms. Smile restaurant allowed me to smoke at the table. And, Bu-Sa-Ba restaurant has a small, covered smoking area in the rear of the restaurant.

So, between now and May 31, ask your waiter or waitress if it is alright to smoke. If they have a smoking area set up, please use it. If you have to go outside to smoke, like at Kit'z Cafй, then just sit at the table and have your cigarette.

I am not sure how the major tourist areas, Bangkok, Pattaya, and Phuket, are going to respond or what the impact on tourism will be. I would guess that starting on June 1, 2008, there will be a crackdown to show people that the government is serious about the ban.

So, if you are planning to visit the Land of Smiles, and you smoke cigarettes, make sure to ask if it is OK to smoke before you light up. Otherwise, you may have to pay dearly.

Years ago, I had a burning desire to have sunflowers in my garden and as I began to see tall and wonderful flowers in my mind’s eye I bought seeds even though my gardening skills were not high in that time. Nevertheless, I trusted in nature and chose a nice patch under my window to plant the seeds for I wanted to see the flowers every morning.

In my great excitement I forgot the bag of seeds outside and the birds took their share out of it leaving but a small quantity. On the top of that, there were signs telling another story: some mysterious animal transported seeds away and lost some along the way to the garden’s end.

Days went by and a feeling of excitement and expectancy spread in my heart and body until I could see the emerging little plants. My excitement knew no end and soon enough I contracted the habit of observing the young plants which grew relatively fast as we had a sunny and mild Spring. Things went well and I attached lots of hope to my sunflowers until their heads were so big that I expected them to bloom and open up their beautiful faces the next day. In that night I couldn’t sleep well because I was impatient to see my flowers blooming; I could clearly hear it rain for hours.

Early in the morning, I went bare foot to the garden, so great was my impatience and imagine my surprise and disappointment when I discovered that what seemed to be a whole army of hungry snails climbed up to the flowers hearts and simply ate them. My frustration then equalled my previous excitement. The “flowers” were still standing tall but they would never bloom, I was devastated!

In the shock’s aftermath, I decided I had to plant new seeds, which I did immediately while realizing at the same time that the problem was still there: the snails would return and eat up my efforts and joy or so I thought about it at the time. In a second, I declared war upon the nasty snails and did not leave any stone unturned until I found enough information on how to keep them away from my flowers.

The first solution I implemented gave poor results as they ate up the new young stems leaving five flowers, which I attempted to protect desperately.

The rain came more often during the night and I had no means of chasing them away from the growing flowers and yet by the effect of some miracle four flowers grew up to the point where the blooming was to be expected soon. I couldn’t sleep at night, I had nightmares and although that might seem ridiculous now I didn’t want anything eating up my efforts and great hopes.

In that day, a friend of mine came to my place and I told her about my snail problem. She laughed and gave me a special tip I didn’t find anywhere else before. I used her suggestion immediately and hoped for the best over night as the rain was again strong, which is the ideal climate for snails to climb up the flower stems and eat the hearts.

It took ages for the morning to show up before I could finally go out and check out whether I still had any flowers. The scene I witnessed was quite dramatic: lots of snails met their end at the barrier I put between them and the flowers but some got past it obviously and ate up the flowers’ hearts except for one!

I was upset but also grateful for the one flower that was left and it was the most beautiful sunflower I had ever seen. Well, in my eyes at least for it is as they say: “ beauty is in the eye of the beholder”.

Two days later the sunflowers in the neighbour’s garden attracted my attention. My curiosity guided me through the unknown parts of my garden to where the beautiful and many sunflowers stood proud and tall under the warm sun rays that morning. Dew set on their brown and golden faces and made them glisten and glitter with a myriad of diamonds like tiny stars suspended in midair. I was in for a shock when I realized that the flowers were not in my neighbour’s garden as I thought but in mine! In a corner I rarely visit or pay attention to because it had thick little bushes with thorns. It seemed that whatever animal that stole the sunflower seeds, it lost some of them in that very abandoned corner and there they were perfectly protected from the snails and anything else!

The Sunflowers Teachings: what can we learn about Manifestation?

I got my sunflowers in mysterious ways, nothing got lost after all and I learned through that delightful surprise that my strong desire to get beautiful sunflowers bore fruits even though my “fight” against the snails was not too successful. It did not happen where I thought it should happen but some weird circumstances and some mysterious bushes, I thought were the ugliest plants on earth, protected the seeds from the voracious snails and offered me plenty of sunflowers. After that incident my gardening skills improved and I learned to not dismiss anything based on its looks for it might be the one thing that has the potential to make something work perfectly and my dreams come true.

even though one wish didn’t come true exactly the way you wanted it to be, there is always a great lesson from observing where and how it came true in a different way. So being open to possibilities that might be unknown to you at a time might lead you to your heart’s desire in an easy and relaxed manner.

the weird incident was like a miracle to me and although I cannot explain it in a logical way, it made me aware of much greater laws and forces at work in the Universe. Let go and trust that what you want will come to you in ways that you could have never seen before. Be prepared for a delightful surprise.

I learned that I did rush into my decisions because my choice of the spot to plant the seeds was not the best. Moreover, after the first evidence that the snails seemed to like the spot where I planted the seeds, I should have taken a different approach and planted them somewhere else. Perhaps more drastic protection means would have helped. And as I come to think of it, many spots would have been a better way to go about it in the sense of gathering some practical experience about the good and less than good spots for the seeds. The stress and nightmares I suffered were unnecessary and I learned to be more relaxed when engaging in any experience. It certainly taught me to try on many spots and to take into account the results that occurred after that. The most touching discovery was that I got the flowers even though I did not have all the experience I needed to handle the “project” at the time.

And the greatest of all lessons was when I discovered that my neighbor planted a whole field of gorgeous sunflowers. My dream came true in so many ways that I was grateful for the whole experience. Where I worried much, my results were not too good and where I didn’t expect anything I got more than I asked for. It truly pays off to observe where your manifesting efforts are blooming and do more of that…

You are empowered by god in your finances

In the first article I wrote dealing with empowerment ("You Are Empowered By God"), I outlined several principles that pertain to God's word with relation to answered prayers. We saw how God makes covenant promises (contract or agreement promises) and how we are empowered by God Himself to bring about many of the blessings that are mentioned in the Bible. Now let's look at how Father empowers us specifically in the area of finances.

We Are No Longer Under Law, But Under Grace

When we, as Christians, discuss finances the subject almost always goes toward tithing. One of the most popular scriptures quoted in relation to tithing is Malachi 3:10 which says,

"Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be food in My house, and try Me now in this," says the LORD of hosts, "If I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you such blessing that there will not be room enough to receive it."

The word "tithe" used here literally means "tenth." Under the Law, we were required to give a tenth of our first fruits to the Lord. But we aren't under Law since the resurrection of Jesus. Galatians 3:13-14 tells us,

"Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”), that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith."

That should make it easy, right, since we are no longer obligated to give a tenth? That depends on your point of view.

Since the time of Jesus, we have been empowered to control much of our financial blessing from Father. Basically, He has setup more of a reward system than a system of requirements. It works very simply: the more you give, the more He blesses. Look at Luke 6:38 which says,

"Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you.”

With the same measure we use, God will measure back our blessing. If we give a tiny amount, our blessing will be tiny. If we give graciously and generously, Father's reward will be great! That scripture proves beyond a doubt that you cannot out give God. Here's another one from II Corinthians 9:6-8:

"He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work."

What happens when we sow bountifully? We put God's word into motion and God is able to make all grace come our way. The use of the word "able" suggests that God requires us to make the first move and give. When we give generously, God will also make sure we always have all sufficiency in all things. That's a lot of "all's!"

Don't live by the world's standard of penny-pinching and greed. Don't limit God's flow of financial blessing by strictly giving only a tenth of your first fruits. Instead, give in abundance and you'll release God's power so that you can receive in abundance, too!

Are payday loans really the bad deal the federal government says they are

Have you heard the Federal Trade Commission has issued a "Consumer Alert" with a big headline that says, Payday Loans = Costly Cash. Just as there are many ways to look at the situation, the same is true with payday or cash advance loans.

In simple terms, a payday loan is advance on your next paycheck. There are many companies throughout the country that offer these very short-term small loans. The term, or length of time you have to pay back the money typically runs from 2 to 4 weeks. The fees or costs of this short-term loan can be anywhere from 25 to 50%. And this is where the FTC comes in with their complaint.

The government agency spends a lot of time acting like they help consumers. The government has the authority to make changes in how these loans are offered if they were really interested in helping or protecting consumers. Instead however, they state that the APR or annual percentage rate of the small loans is in the hundreds of percent in the are right, but that's not the whole story.

Everyone knows that when you buy a product in a small package it costs more. Larger or bulk packaging usually costs less. Now consider how this fact as it relates to the payday loans.

Consider these facts:

1. A payday loan usually is anywhere from $200-$500 dollars. In the lending business, this is a very small loan amount. It's reasonable then, that the cost of this service would be more expensive than a larger loan.

2. A payday loan is as much a service as it is a loan. Although a bank or credit union may offer a lower interest-rate, how many of them would be willing or able to front you a couple hundred bucks to tell your next paycheck?

There's also no way a bank or credit union would be able to process your loan in just a couple of hours like a payday loan service does every day.

3. Consider payday loans in their costs against other purchases.

When you buy something at the store, the price charged can be broken out into two parts. The first part is the actual cost of the product. The second part is called a markup. A markup is simply the difference between the actual cost of the product and what you are charged as a customer. The markup covers the building, employees, and other costs of running the business including profit.

When going out to dinner with food cost is a very small part of the overall total you're charged. Furniture, jewelry stores and many other retail shops have markups that are much larger than a typical payday loan that's payback on time.
